JOURNEY

PURSUING MY EVER
GROWING PASSION

Ever since I first stepped into my high school's auditorium, I've been captivated by the transformative power that sound and light have on storytelling. The way a subtle shift in background music and perfect lighting can evoke profound emotions, or how a director's vision can breathe new life into a script, has fueled my passion for sound and light design and now assistant directing.

ILLUMINATING STORIES THROUGH LIGHT & SOUND

My Journey in Technical Theatre and Engineering

Blending my love for engineering and design, I have dedicated myself to mastering these crafts. As I stand on the cusp of higher education, I am eager to delve deeper into these fields and contribute my skills to the art of storytelling and in the engineering field.

My journey began in my sophomore year when I volunteered as a lighting assistant for our school's production of Peter and the Starcatcher, working under Lighting Designer Jason Enochs and Director Katherine Powdrell. I was fascinated by how lighting could enhance the narrative and set the mood. This experience ignited my interest in lighting design and engineering, prompting me to explore lighting software and stage design principles.

In my sophomore year, I took on the roles of Head of Sound and Sound Designer for Brigadoon, collaborating closely with Director Katherine Powdrell. I crafted soundscapes that transported audiences to the mystical Scottish Highlands. The success of the production, highlighted by positive feedback from peers and faculty, reinforced my desire to pursue sound design seriously.

Simultaneously, I embraced new challenges as Stage Manager and Lighting Designer for our Jane Eyre UIL One Act Play. Our production advanced to the Area level, and I was honored with two Honorable Mention Technician Awards and one Best Technician Award. These accolades recognized not only my technical skills but also my ability to lead and collaborate under pressure.

My passion for directing blossomed in my junior year when I served as Assistant Director, Stage Manager, and Lighting and Sound Designer for both Romeo and Juliet and Elf the Musical, directed by Katherine Powdrell. Balancing multiple roles taught me the importance of adaptability and creative problem-solving. Guiding actors while managing technical aspects honed my leadership and communication skills, essential qualities for any director.

One of my most enriching experiences was at Camp On The Coast during my sophomore year, where I was the Stage Manager and Lighting Designer for Romeo and Juliet, directed by Cy Scroggins. Being mentored by professional lighting designer Alex Mason allowed me to deepen my understanding of lighting engineering and design, bridging my technical interests with artistic expression.

Beyond school productions, I sought opportunities to expand my skills professionally. As the Head Audio Visual Technician for the Friendswood High School Wranglerettes Spring Show, I collaborated with Directors Alyssa Goza and Kyndal Kennedy. Working alongside Lighting Designer Jason Enochs, I ensured client satisfaction through perfection in execution, learning the nuances of meeting professional standards in the industry.

Balancing my commitment to theater with academic excellence, I am proud to be an honors student in the top 10% of my class. My studies have complemented my work in technical theater, allowing me to apply principles of engineering and design to practical applications on stage.

Looking ahead, I am excited to immerse myself in a program that fosters both technical proficiency and creative exploration in theater production and directing. My goal is to contribute to innovative projects that push the boundaries of traditional storytelling. I am particularly interested in exploring how technology and engineering can enhance audience engagement and bring new dimensions to performance art.

I believe that my passion, experience, and dedication make me a strong candidate for your program. I am eager to learn from seasoned professionals and collaborate with peers who share my enthusiasm for the arts and engineering. Together, I hope to create impactful works that not only entertain but also inspire and provoke thought.
